The offered recommendations assume independent performing procedures of service of the car by its owner unlike the works which are carried out at car repair shop of representative office of the Mercedes-Benz company. Though this schedule is made on the basis of recommendations of manufacturer, intervals between the majority of procedures for a discretion of the owner of the car can be reduced, for example, check and replacement of lubricants and liquids should be made with the intervals providing the maximum service life of the engine or drive. Besides, if the owner of the car is interested in supporting him in a condition of the maximum readiness for operation on a case of possible resale, many procedures can be performed more often. Authors of the present manual can greet a similar initiative only.

Initial service and check of the new car has to be made at car repair shop of representative office of the Mercedes-Benz company for the purpose of performance of conditions of guarantee certificates. This service is provided free of charge.

The checks made on a regular basis

Annually

· You make replacement of motive oil and an oil filter (see the Section Replacement of Motive Oil and Oil Filter).

· Check levels of other working liquids in tanks of a motive compartment (see the Section Check of Levels of Liquids, control of leaks).

Each 2 years

· You make replacement of brake fluid.

· Check a condition of a paint and varnish covering.

· Check a condition of components of the chassis bearing and basic body elements.

Each 3 years

· You make replacement of cooling liquid.

· Clean and grease the directing trenches and rams of a cover of the top hatch.

· You make replacement of the battery of autonomous food of system of an emergency call of TeleAid (at the corresponding complete set).

Through the first 48 000 km, or in 4 years of operation (once), - only diesel models

· Check installation of phases of gas distribution (see Chapters of the Power supply system and production of the fulfilled gases and System of electric equipment of the engine).

Each 72 000 km, or time in 4 years

· You make replacement of spark plugs on models ML 230 (see the Section Check and replacement of spark plugs, check of a condition of high-voltage wires (petrol models)).

Each 96 000 km, or time in 4 years

· You make replacement of the fuel filter (petrol models) / the main and preliminary fuel filters (diesel models) (see the Section Check of a Power Supply System, replacement of the fuel filter).

· Replace the filtering air cleaner element, - do not forget to clean an air cleaner casing from within (see the Head of the Power supply system and production of the fulfilled gases).

· Check a condition of belts of the drive of auxiliary units (see the Section Check of a Condition of Multicostal Belts of the Drive of Auxiliary Units), - in case of need you make replacement (see the Head Dvigatel).

· Replace the filter of purification of air of salon, the preliminary coal filter.

· Check a condition of sealing elements of a jellied mouth of the fuel tank.

Each 160 000 km, or time in 4 years

· You make replacement of spark plugs on petrol models, except ML 230 (see the Section Check and replacement of spark plugs, check of a condition of high-voltage wires (petrol models)).

The procedures performed according to standard Lists of works on THAT (according to indication of the ASSYST system)

List A: The procedure is performed in case the run from the moment of performance of the last service according to the list B makes less than 22 000 km.

List B: The procedure is performed in case the run from the moment of performance of the last service according to the list B makes more than 22 000 km.

Primary service is made according to the list B (full amount of works)!

List A

Interior of the car, screen wipers

· Check serviceability of functioning of the following devices:

a) Devices of the sound and light alarm system, indexes of turns / alarm system;

b) Control/indicator lamps, elements of illumination and devices of internal lighting;

c) External lighting fixtures;

d) Screen wipers;

e) Windscreen washers (including washers of headlights).

· Check a state and serviceability of functioning of seat belts.

· Nullify the counter of intervals planned on an instrument guard (see the Section Active system of the warning of the term of approach of planned (ASSYST)).

Wheel assemblies and brake mechanisms

· Through apertures in disks of the right wheels estimate the residual thickness of frictional overlays of brake shoes.

· Through an aperture in a disk of the right forward wheel estimate the residual thickness of a brake disk.

· Estimate degree of wear and the general condition of tires, measure the residual depth of a pattern of protectors, in case of need make replacement/rotation of wheels.

· Check pressure of a rating of tires, in case of need make the corresponding adjustment.

Motive compartment

Be careful when working in a motive compartment, - operation of the fan of the cooling system can happen within about 30 more seconds after switching off of the engine! In electronic systems of ignition, very high voltage is generated! Be attentive, observe all necessary precautionary measures at service of any components of system, including not only the main (the ignition module, the coil and VV an electrical wiring), but also and accompanying, such as candle sockets, tachometer and the other connected diagnostic equipment. Special attentiveness should be observed at the working engine, during its start, at the included ignition (a key in situation 2) and at a provorachivaniye of a bent shaft manually. Persons with the implanted pacemaker of ignition should not be allowed to service of components of system!

Appearance of a motive compartment is presented on illustrations.

· Check the level of brake fluid.

· Check the level of liquid of washing of glasses.

· Check level and estimate a condition of cooling liquid of the engine.

· Make replacement of motive oil and an oil filter.

· Grease elements of the lock and loops of a cowl.

List B

Salon, headlights and screen wipers

In addition to the procedures listed in the List A:

· Replace the saloon filter.

· Check correctness of adjustment of an inclination of optical axes of headlights, in case of need execute the corresponding adjustment.

· Make replacement of brushes of forward screen wipers.

Wheel assemblies and brake mechanisms

· Remove wheels and measure the residual thickness of blocks and disks of lobbies and back brake mechanisms.

· Estimate degree of wear and the general condition of tires, measure the residual depth of a pattern of protectors, in case of need make replacement.

· Execute rotation of wheels.

· Check pressure of a rating of tires (including a spare wheel), in case of need make the corresponding adjustment.

· Check serviceability of functioning of the parking brake and reliability of keeping of the car by it on a bias.

Car bottom

The scheme of an arrangement of the main components installed under the bottom of the car is submitted on an illustration.

The typical scheme of an arrangement of the components installed under the bottom of the car (the torsion springs of a forward suspension bracket are removed)

· Check the components located under the bottom and lines of connecting paths for existence of signs of development of leaks.

· Check a state and correctness of laying of hydraulic and fuel lines.

· Check a condition of spherical support and rubber boots of hinged assemblies of power shafts, components of a suspension bracket and steering.

· Estimate degree of wear of components of the steering drive (in size of side plays).

Motive compartment

In addition to the procedures listed in the List A:

· Visually estimate a condition of all available components, check correctness of laying and reliability of fixing of lines of communication.

· Examine the power unit and auxiliary units on existence of signs of development of leaks.

· Check the level of liquid of system of hydrostrengthening of a wheel.

· Check the level of electrolyte of the rechargeable battery.

· Estimate a condition of belts of the drive of auxiliary units.

· Check serviceability of functioning of the drive of a butterfly valve, grease rotary knots (except models ML 430, ML 500 and ML 55 AMG, - series 113 engines).

According to the list B

· Check the level of cooling liquid of the engine.

· Check the level of liquid of system of hydrostrengthening of a wheel (GUR).

· Check the level of hydraulic liquid of adjustment of rigidity of shock-absorbers.

· Check the elements located in a motive compartment for existence of signs of development of leaks.

· Check a state and correctness of laying of hydraulic and fuel lines.

· Check a condition of belts of the drive of auxiliary units.

· Grease elements of the drive of a butterfly valve, check serviceability of functioning of the drive.

· Make replacement of the dustproof filter of systems of heating and ventilation installed in a motive compartment (without coal element).

· Make replacement of motive oil and an oil filter.

· Check serviceability of functioning of a latch of the lock of a cowl.

Body (according to the List B)

· Check lamps of headlights (except xenon) for compliance of requirements of Specifications to consumption power.

· Check correctness of adjustment of optical axes of headlights, in case of need make the corresponding adjustment.

· Replace working elements of brushes of screen wipers (including cleaners of headlights).

Luggage compartment

According to the List A

· Check pressure of a rating of the tire of a spare wheel.

According to the List B

· Check electrolyte level in the battery.
